Pittsburgh Pirates Announce Strategic Reorganization and Key Promotions
On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Pirates General Manager Ben Cherington announced multiple hirings and promotions within the baseball operations department, part of a strategic reorganization.
Mike Voltmer was appointed vice president of pro evaluation and strategy, transitioning from a position with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he directed baseball information and strategy.
Trey Rose received a promotion to director of baseball operations, moving up from his role as a baseball operations fellow since 2017. Will Lawton shifts to special assistant of player evaluation after four years as pro scouting director.
Michael Chernow ascended to director of coaching and player development, overseeing the minor leagues, while John Baker was elevated to vice president of performance. Chernow has been with the Pirates for nine years.
Max Kwan returns as vice president of international scouting, succeeding Junior Vizcaino. Kwan has been influential in signing international prospects and recently worked for the Boras Corporation.
Jeremy Bleich was promoted to director of pitching development, focusing on enhancing pitching strategies and skills across all levels. Previously, he was the assistant director of pitching after four years on the major league coaching staff.
Kevin Tenenbaum will serve as vice president of baseball research and development after seven years with the Cleveland Guardians, taking over from Sean Ahmed.
